Federal Work Study
Computer Technology Project
The Federal Work Study Program offers employment opportunities for work study students interested in working with computers. Positions include jobs as web page designers, computer technicians as well as routine lab monitors. Web page designers assist faculty and staff with creating new web sites, and with updating and maintaining existing web sites. Computer technicians work with departments to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, install equipment and assist with other computer support functions. In some cases, the project supervisor will provide additional training, if necessary. However, you must meet the minimum qualifications stated for the positions that you are interested in.
You must file a Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) and receive an offer of Federal Work Study Program funds on your award letter.
Accept the work study offer on your award letter and complete the work study job application.
Return the offer letter and the job application to the Office of Financial Aid.
How to Apply for a Computer Technology Job
Contact the person listed for that position to schedule a job interview. Most interviews may be conducted by telephone. You may interview for more than one position, but you can only work at one job.
Be prepared to discuss your qualifications for the position, the days and hours you will be available to work and the date you will start.
Make sure that the job fits into your schedule and is located on a campus that you will be able to get to.
Accepting a Job Offer
Inform the interviewer that you are accepting the job.
In conjunction with the job supervisor, agree upon a starting date and a work schedule.
Contact the Student Employment Office to finalize your job assignment. We will need the name of the department and the name of the person making the job offer. After we have received this information, we will prepare the Employment Authorization Forms you will need in order to begin working. You may email the information to cmeekins@rci.rutgers.edu or call our office at (732) 932-8817 ext. 651. You cannot begin working until you have received your Employment Authorization Forms from the Student Employment Office.
